“Some people cannot find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. They don’t drink the sand because they are thirsty; they drink the sand because they don’t know the difference.”
~ President Andrew Shepherd, in The American President
There is collateral beauty in everything, even in death (because nothing is ever really dead if you see it at the right angle), even in broken relationships, even when life seems like it doesn’t notice you. One just needs to look deep within.
In the movie, The American President, the President says that he was so busy doing his job, he forgot to do his job. He began to lose so much because his focus became too small. Fear of others’ perception, fear of losing, so he held fast and tight not to lose instead of fighting to win. It was his perception of fear that caused him to lose, not fear itself.
Perception, even our own, can be like death, a prison sentence. It stifles, it hinders and prevents us from becoming and being our best, the best version of who we were created to be. Sometimes, no matter what you say or how you say it, people will believe their own perceptions, even when the truth is so very different. They do that because to face the truth means to face their role in your hurt, your pain and even your happiness.
When you look into the mirror, what do you see? Do you see hope or do you see an image or images of faces looking back at you who told you what or who you should become or when to speak and when to keep quiet? Is the image your own or one that was created on your behalf? If it is the latter, change your image.
Change your perception!
Do not be afraid of the lion’s roar in the distance because all too often, there is no roar at all; it is the perception of it that grips you with fear and stagnates you. It is never too late to change. Time has no real end date. Time is an illusion, perception.
Walk forward at your own pace, just keep walking. Allow ALL negative perceptions of you to roll off your back. Love yourself enough to do that. Love exists in every moment, even in the dark ones. Seek it!
See your love. Feel your love. Embrace your love.
Then, after it is all said and done, smile back at the beautifully new perception you’ve created. You are the lion; let me hear you roar. It is a WONDER and so are YOU!
